Story Book Day

What is Story Book Day?
Many African schools have few or no books, and libraries are almost non-existent.  Blackboards are often the only teaching aid, severely limiting learning, literacy and creativity

Story Book Day is a jole rider project which gets children reading in the UK by getting children reading in Africa. Not only does a Story Book Day help transform bare library shelves into a world of endless imagination, it is a fantastic way for pupils and students to share the pleasure and fun of stories with their peers in Africa while also enhancing their own literacy

What happens on Story Book Day?
Pupils bring just one or two of their favourite story books to school, along with 50p with each title. The 50p donation is needed to help jole rider to transport the books to Africa and to fund librarians and furniture in the libraries. They write a personal message for the book’s next reader beginning "I hope you like this book because..." and paste their message inside their book.

A school can hold a Story Book Day at any time of year. It is ideal to be organised by older students in secondary schools as an Enterprise project
